This tool (formerly known as Instantaneous Problem Detector for Clusters or IPD/OS) is designed to detect and analyze operating system (OS) and cluster resource related degradation and failures in order to bring more explanatory power to many issues that occur in clusters where Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC are running such as node eviction.

Is there anything in the oracle alert logs? Sometimes it will show up there, or in the system logs.

Hello Joe,
as other posters already mentioned, node eviction is not expected behavior.
Apart from sar and other OS data collection tools, ask the sysadmins to look after the network, e.g. faulty network cables etc. can also cause node eviction.
Kind regards

you might want to get your sysadmins to get sar (or systemtap) to collect OS data periodically as things like a CPU or i/o bound system may not necessarily be in the cluster logs.

Well once research started, the cssd logs had rotated and information was gone, so we're going to run diagcollection.pl soon as the evicted node comes back to the cluster, of course the next time it happens.

Is it normal for node evictions to happen? If all is going well, then there shouldn't be evictions right?
