CAST function in 10g does not use indexes after statistics are gathered

Hi,
We've encountered a bug when using the CAST function in one of our packages after we've gathered statistics in 10g. Apparently, indexes are not being used against the tables in the pl/sql where the CAST function exist. Oracle has acknowledged the bug. Has anyone experienced this?
