** streams versus goldengate

hi ,
for streams - incase of ddl like add column - can it handle it if done on source alone or it needs to be done on both source and target. what abt other maintenance , setup, over head . if it reads redo or archive logs hw does it compare to golden gate , sharplex . does it transfer files like golden gate , sharplex on port.does it need supplimental loging.being part of oracle i assume no other license costs . like for golden gate , sharplex any other comments /input welcome.thx.
