The economy is bad and sales people are on commission. Alot of companies put sales people on month to month commission, if you miss your quote for two months in a row you are fired. There is a hire/fire mentality in alot of sales positions. So if they are close to being fired they get desperate. Oracle is known to be a cut throat company to work for.

You can literally fly high one month with great sales and be fired 2 months later.
