Dear all,
thanks a lot for your replies, so at least I don't feel like I'm pedantic anymore, not even a little.
I have taken the question of nullifying support to Oracle support for clarification, that might be the fence I can set around my database.
Unluckily, the powers here don't take my concerns seriously-the views on top of X$ views are creating a dependency on the software vendor. In plain English that means there is not going to be an 11g upgrade until the vendor fully supports it. And they have swallowed this without saying a word....
Anyway, I think I made myself hugely unpopular however I'm sure my comments will pay off in the mid-to long term as I covered my back. Nobody can claim they hadn't known!
Thanks again for all your input, I have smiled more than once reading your replies.
Martin
