I have encountered this on one of my RAC node which someone is doing 'select *" from a table with thousands of partitions. This note helped me: 786507.1 HOW TO FIND BLOCKING SESSION FOR MUTEX WAIT EVENT cursor: pin S wait on X

Subject: cursor: pin X wait on S
Does anyone know what would cause a lot of "cursor: pin X wait on S" waits in a RAC system? I've read it might be due to a lot of hard parsing, but that doesn't seem to be the case in our system, yet one of our main queries has high concurrency waits due to this.
Thanks,
Stuart
