Jeff,
The Sun rep was very helpful. They recommended the T5440 series.
However, there were lot of issues around the oracle and T-series before. It seems like some of them were related to older T-series boxes.
I still wanted to get some comparison between X-Series & T-Series from "Oracle" perspective, rather than plain SPEC #s.
The replies on this list have been very helpful.
Thanks,
- Pradeep

Hi Pradeep - that Netra sounds like a pretty old piece of kit, even if it is still being sold (just). My last place had some ~10 yr old ones kicking around that couldn't be decomm'd.
The x4450 seems reasonable, I know Greenplum uses them for their basic nodes. But of course it won't be running Sparc Solaris if compatibility with other tools is an issue. Oracle x86 solaris releases are not exactly first tier releases either, tho if you plan to run windows, or linux the release situation is better.
How about a nice CMT server instead ? T5140 or similar.. good if you're not running single-threaded work..
Also depends on your definition of performance - number crunching, lots of users, good multi-threaded performance etc...?
Perhaps your Sun rep should be helping you out, over a nice lunch or something ;)
cheers-
Jeff

Any comments on this scenario?
