I would definitely have at least one physical hardware RAC installation before going to production with it. There are a lot of hardware issues that just dont show up in virtual installation. Getting the shared storage configured with appropriate mount options is one of the most basic, especially if you are a small shop where the DBA has to do a lot of the hardware work.
