I've seen at least one case of an instance crash causing loss of a sequence in nocache mode. This was a while back (9i) and perhaps it was a bug (though one was never filed). Based on this experience, I don't trust sequences if I *absolutley* require no gaps. When you end up looking at business requirements, this is rarely the case in fact, but generally assumed. So, often it's not really an issue.
Your experience may be different than mine, and I certainly have no desire to disseminate misinformation.
Cheers!

The LDS Church is looking for DBA's. You do have to be a Church member in
good standing. A lot of kind people write me, concerned I may be breaking
the law by saying you have to be a Church member. It's legal I promise! :-)

Hi Robert,
Never is a word I don't see too often. I think a "nocache order" sequence is better and more reliable than any other method I've seen. What approach would you use instead to have a no-gap list of numbers guaranteed?

Please excuse my typos, I sent this from my iPhone.
