The only reason that you HAVE to use resetlogs is when you do an incomplete/point in time recovery or rebuild the controfile.

Subject: resetlog confuse

Dear all ,

I still have some confuse about reset log.

Is that true if your controlfile is restore from a backup, you must do alter database open resetlog after the final recovery?

So the only scenario i do not need resetlog should be "the control file restored from a known health state of other location while db is online" ???

if i try to move my both database files and control files from OS filesystem to ASM using rman,

I have to do the resetlog even the backup is complete , restorable and recoverable ???

Thanks a lot.
