Indeed. I think that one misnomer is that older releases contain less bugs. The flip side of that is that newer releases contain more bug fixes, but may introduce new bugs, generally in new features. One thing is for certain, newer releases are more likely to have a quicker turn around for bug fixes as it is actively being developed on. This is just part of the software development cycle. The other notable is that when bugs are found, the "main" release label is tested for the existence of that bug and fixed if necessary, then the fix is back ported, if feasible. And many know sometimes the code changes are too complex for the fix to be back ported.
