Q: shared servers and automatic memory manage

Hi, a follow dba reference me to this article http://www.pythian.com/blogs/524/shared-servers-and-automatic-workarea-management
In short , it state there that when a shared session use a memory area it is "lock" to area. The article suggest to use workarea_size_policy=manual , but we've a lot of shared sessions...
I wander if it a by design or by a bug ( if so , if it was solved )
