Hello

Some notes I hope will help you. This is for 10g and HPUX 11.23.

  • Install Oracle patchset (of course) AND individual patches published after patchset.
  • HP-UX 11.23 don´t permit asynch i/o. You must use ASM, RAW or dbwr_slaves

I used:

hpux_sched_noage=180

disk_asynch_io=false

filesystemio_options=directio

dbwr_io_slaves=4

  • Configure dbc_min_pct y dbc_max_pct ¡! (I use dbc_min =5 and dbc_max =8)
    • vx_ninode=40000 or it will eat a lot of CPU
  • This is very important: be prepared to get some querys running WORSE because the changes in the access plans.

It´s a good idea to prepare a test system before final migration.

Good luck!

Asunto: pa-risc to itanium migration

Good day all,

I would appreciate hearing of any experiences of Oracle database migration from HP-UX PA-RISC to HP-UX Itanium, especially relative to Oracle spincount, cursor sharing, HP-UX config, and any other lurking gems.

Environment:

Oracle: 9.2.0.7 EE, OLTP avg sustained connects: ~3900

HP PA-RISC: HP9000/800/rp8420, 14 cpus, 48877mb, os: 11.11

HP Itanium: rx 7640, 12 cpus, 49017mb, os: 11.23

SAN: EMC, 1GB interconnects, single NIC

Thanks.
