is the java option required to enable xa transactions?

Hi,

Do I need to install the java option in the db to enable XA transactions on the database? My database version is 10.2.0.3 (rac) and I have enabled DTP on the services by using dbms_monitor.modify_service and the services have been configured in a preferred / available setting (no server load balancing).
