More than 10 years ago I did this sort of thing for
better base pay and the usual benefits (medical, 401k,
life insurance, disability, etc.).
Incentives amounted to about $15K+ a year more. Incentives were based on how much more service you could sell to the clients once you started supporting them. If they like you and trust your judgement that was pretty easy.
