In Oracle, you can NOT and should NEVER drop a datafile from a a tablespace. Oracle, however, provided a single SQL interface to doing so ONLY in anticipation to dropping the entire tablespace. You only choice is to follow what's mentioned in the other 2 replies. Even with 10gR2, the DATAFILE must be blank.
