RE: Oracle 11g - Invisible Indexes

I understand that, of course.... I wasn't quite clear in my meaning which was to say that if one could use a hint (as was the case in the Beta) then this feature would be even more useful. My only excuse for my lack of clarity was the lateness of the hour! :-)

The aim of the feature is twofold:

• Testing a DROP INDEX without really dropping it. IMHO this is only interesting for very large indexes. Otherwise it isn't a problem recreating it...
• Testing a CREATE INDEX without impacting every operation on the database. To enable it the initialization parameter optimizer_use_invisible_indexes may be set at session level.

Note that if hints would be honored the feature would be useless for the former utilization.
