This is kind of funny is a sick way, but I've been trying to get to 10.2.0.3
Grid in Winders (small shop -- can't justify Linux because of limits of
maintainability if I'm not around) for over a week now, but the 10.2.0.2
base install keeps failing because it isn't patched for DST 2K7.
Attempting to turn the clock forward, just as soon as the uninstall -- ahem,
"DEinstall", decides to work.
My off-the-top-of-my-head gripes with OEM 10gR1 *DB Control* so far:
- I can't get the information I need where I need it. For example,
drilling down to job schedules doesn't allow one to go back to listing the
jobs without going to the top-level dashboard.
- Can't see Top SQL from more than 1 hour ago via the web interface (must
manually use DBA_HIST views).
- Can't see/manage DBMS_JOBs. (minor)
- Can't modify or even *copy* existing backup jobs created through OEM.
That led to human error in recreating one job by the previous DBA. I'll be
rectifying that after an RMAN class...
- Information in DBA_HIST_SEG_STAT appears to be flat out wrong (e.g.
SPACE_ALLOCATED_TOTAL for some tables is understated by as much as 300%).
Maybe that's not an EM thing, but the license to use the info is.
- Graphing engine doesn't recognize that SVG is builtin to Firefox.
- DST pre-patching scripts from Oracle Support explicitly exclude SYSMAN
objects, causing us DBAs new to OEM 10g to overlook it for patching! (OK,
that's not really OEM's fault)
- Causes unexplainable ORA-1422 errors when notifying about a metric with
multiple thresholds.
- Aggregated performance drilldowns (e.g. the "Wait Bottlenecks" metrics)
don't always appear to be inline with Oracle's more recent emphasis on the
wait interface, or at least at my level of understanding it from the
Millsap/Holt book. This one's much more highly subjective than the rest.
Perhaps I'm just more familiar with the way Quest's Spotlight presents the
information.
- No support for complex scheduling (e.g. can't find a way to set up a
schedule interval that includes "BYHOUR=12,17;").
My OTTOMH likes:
- Ubiquitous web interface means I can more easily run the console remotely
and also from Linux.
- Probably some that I can't think of.

Worth to mention that 10.2.0.3 OEM upgrade was the first upgrade I had
installed without any tweaking - just like it should be. So it's getting
more and more stable.
