One of our guys did this, he was fortunate enough to have an
existing 9i database he could use.
I believe they're still doing it, but he's not in today.

Michael,
I'm dimly recalling that somebody on this list a looong time ago described a solution they implemented. As I recall, it involved creating a 9i database and then creating database links so your 8i doesn't directly contact 10g, but does it through the 9i intermediary.
