I like the article as it is.

For the DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO usage, I am not a developer and rather ignorant on the how-to,

So that I am eager to read the paper with full of example by Niall.

I like the article but you missed the most important one of all for me. You can, and should, when developing applications that contain operations that will/may take some time record the progress of these operations in V$SESSION_LONGOPS yourself by using DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO.
