Kevin, The following link:. http://docs.hp.com/en/8988/ASM-SGeRAC-tk.pdf Is a paper on asm with SGeRAC. . The document here: http://docs.hp.com/en/5971/SG-SGeRAC-EMS-Support.pdf - this is the december version - i have the october one which states: Support for Oracle ASM with SGeRAC, requires: SGeRAC A.11.17, Oracle 10g R2, and ASM disk group members must be raw volumes managed by SLVM; . There are a few others too, on the hp.com site, if you want the references for those I can send the links over. In any case I have gone through loads of docs. I have seen the SGeRAC support matrix and now 11.17 supports ASM, the requirement is ASM over SLVM. It is quite confusing, in oracle doc's they say do not use asm disks in SLVM. However the HP docs state otherwise for 11.17. Thanks ...Do you have a reference for where it is now recommended to use ASM over SLVM? ...As for why Oracle docs say not to use SLVM, that is very easy to understand. Oracle docs about ASM are about 50% marketing literature and 50% operational know-how. Oracle corp attempts to say that ASM is a volume manager and a filesystem but it is neither. It is an Oracle segment manager that scatters blocks (not RAID). -- http://www.freelists.org/webpage/oracle-l ___________________________________________________________ Try the all-new Yahoo! Mail.
