Michael,
I was also just looking at the v$backup_set view within the database itself. It looks like each backup is recorded here as well. This must be stored in the control file someplace.

Subject: [Spam] General reports on the RMAN catalog
Having a catalog for many databases, is there any general reports out there to tell me who all is using the catalog?
Is it possible to get some generic reports like "Which databases have been backed up this week?"
Everything normally goes from MY database and it's status. What if I want to know if there is any "undocumented" backups taking place of a database not known to be registered in this catalog?
Thanks. Of course, perhaps that's what they have put into Grid Control?
