List,
Corruption comes in a variety of forms. A few versions back, some people on this list reported situations where RMAN didn't find all forms of corruption. They received some corruption errors even though they had been relying on RMAN to discover corruption. In the past for small databases I've regularly done a full export to /dev/null.
Fortunately with modern hardware and modern Oracle versions corruption seems to occur less frequently.
