As this is NON-RAC environment where only ASM instance is running to support single instance. Here is the $ORACLE_HOME/log/hostname/cssd/occsd.log file

  [ CSSD]2006-11-06 11:16:49.759 [4139776944] >TRACE: clssnmPollingThread: node hostname1 (0) missed(2) checkin(s) [ CSSD]2006-11-06 12:19:58.326 [4139776944] >TRACE: clssnmPollingThread: node hostname1 (0) missed(2) checkin(s) [ CSSD]2006-11-06 12:20:04.342 [4139776944] >TRACE: clssnmPollingThread: node hostname1 (0) missed(2) checkin(s)

The system crashed at 12:26 as shown in last|more command

  oracle pts/1 198.199.175.159 Mon Nov 6 15:14 - down (00:44)
oracle pts/0 198.199.175.159 Mon Nov 6 15:06 - down (00:52)
reboot system boot 2.6.9-22.ELhugem Mon Nov 6 15:00 (00:58)
oracle pts/0 198.199.175.159 Mon Nov 6 12:26 - crash (02:34)

So nothing is recorded in ocssd.log file after system crashed

    Sanjay,

I too had this problem. But in my case /tmp was 100% full. After clearing /tmp, I was able to access it.

RHAT system crashed and when came back, I tried to start ASM instance I got error   Connected to an idle instance.

  SQL> startup
ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Manager   SQL> exit
  Disconnected

I tried to start it using Superuser Root account   $ su
  Password:
  # /etc/init.d/init.cssd start
Startup will be queued to init within 90 seconds.   # -ef|grep css
  root 6346 6290 0 15:19 pts/1 00:00:00 grep css

It is still not back and I even tried init.cssd start/Manualstart

Any suggestion as this happen few time and last time I used the following   $ORACLE_HOME/bin/localconfig reset /home/oracle/10.2.0

  TIA
