RAC connection problems

We have a 2-node RAC on Sun V440 (oracle 10.2.0.2.0 on solaris 10). The problem is once in a while we get connection hang ups while connecting to the DB via sqlplus from a client. After waiting several minutes the following error is received: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred.

While the above "hang-ups" are going on other users can connect to the same DB from the same client successfully. Any suggestions?
