To start, log into SQL*Plus as system, and execute the command
SHOW PARAMETER This will show you all the current settings on your instance. Now, you need to study in order to determine the appropriate setting of each of these parameters for your instance. You can start by googling for each parameter. There are also some good books that are available to learn more.
