well despite having shamelessly stolen Mogen's title and presented "You Probably don't need to pay loads for DataGuard when there are other cheaper solutions around" at UKOUG I'd wouldn't be comparing to RAC, but evaulating the cost of lost systems and the cost of manageability of alternative DR solutions. For people that do care about near continuous availability DG is really quite cheap - even if you didn't buy EE and is (reasonably) easy to manage. It helps that it is a somewhat old and reliable technology as well.
