I use sudo to log in as the oracle software owner. Works fine. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I logged in directly as the oracle owner.

Just use the sudu su - oracle and you will get all the privs of the oracle owner.

Sudo is a tool that enable an user to perform tasks as root, not oracle. If you need to grant an user to perform tasks as oracle (i.e. database administration), then put that user into dba group.
