... what "mirror" is RMAN reading? In 8.1.7, Oracle should have no knowledge of mirrors under a datafile. There is the ODM mirror stuff that exposes mirror characteristics upstream, but this is 8.1.7 ..so I'm confused about the notion of "...back to the disk, back to the mirror..."

Is VxVM mirroed? (I'm not singling out VxVM BTW).
