What is the way to apply patch in Oracle Application

Hi all,

      Could anyone, give me a brief of how to apply patches in Oracle Application (unix).

      What is the file that runs first.
      I imagine that there is a files like shell script that call others

scripts and do all copy and necessary update in folders.
