Don't spend a lot of effort "validating" backups. How can you ever trust
that process? Spend your effort performing restores. I mean actually
bringing up the backup on another server. How often you do this will depend
on how many restore failures you experience. Often you can combine this
activity with creating or refreshing test databases.
