Cindy, SUN Solaris is a decent Unix operating system, in contrast to Linux. Every disk partition has both block device and character device, also known as raw device. There is no need for /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices or /proc/partitions. You should have a tool called VxVM which could be used to configure and share volumes.

NetApp filer configured as SAN or file server? If it is a SAN configuration, your installing instructions are on http://tahiti.oracle.com. If it is a file server (NFS) configuration, you will have to ask the vendor. They should provide you with a reference implementation, instruction and support. May the farce be with you.
