Hi,
with 10.2 you can have TAF with EZ connect (server side failover). See for example http://www.dominicgiles.com/blog/files/archive-3.html ..and you will need '10.2 clients'. Still with RAC you may want to use tnsnames or ldap to use client side load balancing and failover (over all the available listeners).
