Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Is TNSPING = 1000ms OK? Oracle says it is
Hi
I have a server (Windows Server ) with Oracle EE with databases using Data Guard. (Oracle 9iR2)
There is an Oracle Listener (1521) and Oracle Data Guard Listener (1748) on a server.
If I TNSPING both ports, I get the following results.
Port Response Time
---- --------------
1521 20 ms
1748 1000 ms
So I asked Oracle support and the reply -
The Data Guard needs to do lots of stuff and 1000 ms is OK.
What? That is x50 slower than a normal tnsping to 1521 and they tell me that this is acceptable?
What do you think?
What times do you get for tnspinging a Data Guard port?
(The are no network QoS/packet shaping )
Even doing a loopback tnsping on the same server gives the same result.
Here are the outputs:
tnsping (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server1dr)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = DRTEST.world))) 5
