QIC Tapes - an oxymoron if ever there was one (quarter inch cartridge). I used to install betas of Oracle 7 onto Dynix PTX using those. That was when Oracle shipped you an entire media set every time they released a new version.

I have fond memories of installing Oracle 8 onto a Solaris box - which was in a hosting company's server "warehouse". No-one had bought a monitor for the machine and all the other cabinets were locked so we couldn't pinch one. We ended up using a demo of an X-client we pulled down of the web, that ran on a windows laptop - and axed your session after 30 minutes. Took 4 attempts before we got the install fast enough to run before being dropping the client connection.

Standalone backups to TK50's - those were the days ....
