Errors while creating datafile on remote nfs mount

Hello,

   I generally have all of my datafiles on the local server, however we recently had the need to create a datafile that was larger than the server's available space (20GB). So I created the datafile on a remote EMC file system.

   When rman ran to backup the entire database it encountered corruption on this remote datafile. Is this common? Have others had similar experiences? Any valuable input is appreciated.
