9.2.0.5 Linux, 4 node rac primary, 1 node no-rac standby

We have a little issue here, our standby database was opened in managed recovery when it should have been read only and it applied a couple of weeks worth or logs which we didnt want.

We need to restore an old version, we have a hot rman backup of the primary databse on the day we want, so will this work......

restore backup of primary to new server then create a standby database from that restored database in the normal method. Will the still running primary still talk to the new standby and everything be in sync.

Or can we create a standby from the backup directly (if so how?), we don't think this can be done but would be a lot easier if we could.

This is a physical, not logical

Thanks
