SQL> show sga
Total System Global Area 1496394596 bytes
Fixed Size 457572 bytes
Variable Size 494927872 bytes
Database Buffers 998244352 bytes
Redo Buffers 2764800 bytes
running on windows SE. Admittedly the buffer cache is rather larger than 250mb
