whatever version u are working on mostly depends on your application needs.
>From my point of view the 10G1.0.2,3 was the worst
release I have seen. They have messed up in every way. I dont know how may any tars i have created on this when we moved to 10g1.0.3, At one point in time we rolledback the RAC TO A SINGLE NODE.We are still seeing lots of issues on this single node itself. Their one off patch is not tested by oracle themselves and the docs are hopeless.
One of the patches when we applied on a rac regarding VIP issue messed up so much that the VIP GOT STUCK on running node and never got tranferred when the failed node came back alive. The Tech support person himself was counting stars going through the patch docs. We are currently trying to test the 10.1.0.4 patch and there is already one off patches on top of this and even some these docs are not correctly written and they are messed up, It will totally confuse u.We were talking in our team that we gonna be a certified OPATCH dba's based on the rate we are applying these one off patches.
I have a feeling in 10.2 they have solved most of the problems. But we will never know, We are currently testing this too.
Keeping my fingers crossed that it will go smooth.
