I know its not the version you are looking at, but we spent some (2)
years working with 9.0.2 App server, primarily using using portal,
portlets, some J2EE, etc. The product was not even of beta quality,
IMHO. Too many horror stories to list completely, but here are a few:
Portal Import/Export extremely buggy, difficult to move an application
without major fixes being required.
Structure of the product precluded use of standard RDBMS import/export
functions.
System Unique identifiers buried in product precluded ability to do a
physical restore on another box and have it work (needed to do full
reinstall and then portal export/import).
Issues adding/removing hosts from "farm".
Poorly designed, undocumented internal schema.
Limited ability to transition earlier Portal versions forward.
Support had no clue on the product.
Endless series of patches that often did more harm than good.
Needless to say we retired the product, and transitioned the Portal work to a non-Oracle implementation. I wouldn't touch it again with a barge pole. Only good news is that we acquired it as a time limited license, so had relatively small initial investment.
