Copies of control file in dbs directory

Copies of the CF are being generated into the dbs directory. Unfortunately, some at times when client is complaining about performance.

One of the DBAs started this last spring and didn't realize they were being generated here. He's out since his wife just had a baby. I called and he can't remember were this is coming from.

  Sometimes we're getting 12 or 13 per minute.

   I thought it was from RMAN, but we're using BCV splits now instead.

   It looked like something to do with FORMAT parameter, but I don't see any RMAN jobs

        Anyone know how I can turn this off?
