Paula,
We have about 10.25 GIG of live data and 95 GIG Read Only.I only have a limited amount of disk space and only 3 mount pionts for the database. I use the 144 gig SAN disk for archivelogs and disk backups only. Each Sunday I run Rman incremental level 0 and archive logs to disk and each night run incremental level 1. The backup format of 5 GIG file limit helps in backing up to old tape drives. The lev 1 backup produces about 1.5 GIG of data including archive logs. Each week I ftp the files from the server to my linux pc with 300 gig storage and tar the files to tape. After I have a successfull backup to tape I delete the files from the server freeing up the space. I keep 2 weeks live data in the linux pc in case I have to do a restore and not want to wait on the slow tapes. The level 0 backup takes about 20 minutes from start to finish. Ron

Wanting to do our backups to disk as tape media and hware so unreliable and system admin group wants us to have them run our backups and restores which would just slow down the whole process

Any way to keep storage costs down considering one week worth of backups and using all the tricks for types of tablespaces and backups???
