Best place I've found to get quick, quality, free Crystal Reports (CR) help is at http://www.tek-tips.com/
They have several threads on it.
Check the ones that start with: Business Objects: Crystal Reports
>From within CR, it's possible to view the query that's being sent to the database from the report.
(I only know v10, and I'm just learning it.)
It's possible for CR to build the query for the developer via a wizard, or for the developer to hard-code the query themselves. (In v10 at least, in the database expert, check the "Add Command" node to see if it holds a query in it. If it does, they hand-wrote the query. If not, CR wrote the query.)
Hope this helps!
