Laura, two things:
1) 9.2 needs more shared pool then 8.1.6. 256M is a bare minimum, even for = a=20

very small database. It's a very different beast from 8i database. 2) Take a look at the note 146599.1 (Metalink, not MS support). The title i= s=20

ominous: Diagnosing and Resolving Error ORA-04031. It may have something to do with your problem.
