Perl is contagious. I confess being contaminated for a long time. I even rewrote Jonathan's awk script
detailing "how to find memory hogs without connecting" (do "ps -elu oracle" and sort on "SZ" field) in perl. Also, Cary Millsap is a superb perl programmer. The code snippet in "Optimizing Oracle" is good, but you
should have seen (now obsolete) Sparky. I am probably every bit as fanatical perl code cutter as Jared,
but with dryer sense of humor.
