Is it safe that I run "ALTER SYSTEM CHECK DATAFILES;" anytime in a production system? Thanks.

ALTER SYSTEM CHECK DATAFILES; - that would write error in alert.log if something wrong. Otherwise, it'll be quite.
That's what I do immediately after I remove(rename) the file (well a soft link to to logical volume as we are mostly in RAC). After checking alert.log I can remove the file completely.
