I would concur with Guang!
Test test test
The optimizer changes in every release. And there can be significant changes in the execution plan of SQL. And there may be the need to establish some different values for the init parameters based on your testing........

I would say to fully test your applications on your test 9i system before you migrate. Some sql query plan can change due to oracle's internal optmizer change. Also I would use oracle exp/imp to move schema data.

Subject: 8i to 9i upgrade
Hi Friends,
We are planning an upgrade from 8i (8.1.7.4) to 9i on HP-UX platform.
The database size is close to 500 GB.
I'm looking for best practices, Do's and Don'ts, possible pitfalls and alternate strategies for the same.
Please let me know your advice/experience regarding the above.
Regards,
Naveen
