Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Re: 8i to 9i Client migration
Some things to consider:
Do the applicatoins care which version of the client they are on?
Is ODBC used? If so, proceed with caution. Test the apps with the newer version. There are also newer versions of ODBC available on OTN for both 8i and 9i. Some apps are picky about ODBC versions.
If you have a test box to work with, it's easy to test.
Just install 9i, copy the 8i_home/network/admin/*.ora files to
9i_home/network/admin,
use the ORACLE_HOME tool to set the current Oracle home.
Change any app dependent registry entries that may point to the 8i home.
Is java required? If so, you're on your own there.
Test the app(s).
