Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Oracle server is down during a COLD backup
What Mark said, but in addition, I recommend that you do a startup =
restrict, shutdown normal before the cold backup (after shutting down =
however you want to shut down where resorting to immediate or abort is =
often the best way to pull the plug). Of course that may be problematic =
if you've interrupted a huge transaction that will take more than your =
backup window to roll back, but then you probably shouldn't have =
interrupted it in the first place.
Not really sure why you want a cold backup, but that's your business.

mwf

Subject: RE: Oracle server is down during a COLD backup
I searched on metalink on the exact phrase +ACI-ALTER DATABASE CLOSE =
NORMAL+ACI- and
all the words: +ACI-ksedmp: internal or fatal error+ACI- and received 18 =
bug
reports. I think you will need to open an iTAR and upload the trace =
file to
get help from support narrowing down the issue.
Stopping the database using a +ACI-shutdown immediate+ACI- is a pretty =
normal task
so, no your cold backup is not the root cause of the error. The problem
occurred while the database was being shutdown. This could be a space =
leak
issue. As long as the database starts cleanly you can probably live =
with
it.
If your database is 8.1.7.0 you should consider trying to upgrade to the terminal release for the version which is at least 8.1.7.4.

Subject: Oracle server is down during a COLD backup
I am running oracle8.1.7 on a linux server, the server was down last =
night
during a shutting down to do a cold backup. I notice some errors in =
alert
log and trace file but quite don't understand the root cause. Can =
someone
look at errors and explain to me if my cold backup is a root cause that
brought server down. I really appreciate your helps.
