Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: rman: how do you backup the recovery catalog database?
Takes a little coordination as the backups of the databases actually
occur on 4 servers OTHER than the one where the repository
resides....the RMAN repository is also my Onames server database....

We likewise do cold backups of the RMAN catalog.
There has been some discussion of possible logical corruption of the catalog if it were backed up hot while the repository is in=20 use, similar to the reasons for doing cold backups of OID.
I don't know if the arguments are valid, as it looks like testing this would be a fairly involvded task. It is easier to just do cold backups on RMAN.
A check on MetaLink has not revealed any insight on this. Perhaps I just did not find the correct document.
